I am currently in the process of setting up a new home server, I am not entirely in agreement with the hardware selection.
At the time I was a Synology DS214 +, which is equipped with 2 WD RED 4TB. The disks are both currently running as a data storage and are not mirrored. The disk is currently used as 80% Plex Mediaserver, 10% music streaming and another 10% data collection. A few months ago I start to digitize my Blu-Ray collection, currently I have arround 500 movies on the NAS-Server and I tend to run out of space. In other words, the two 4TB HDDs are completely full and needs to expand or replaced.
However I plan to build a small home server.
Must Haves:
Minimum 6 S-ATA interfaces, enough power to transcode everythink.
My idea:
CPU: Core I3 7100T
CPU Alternative: Pentium G4500T
CPU cooler: EKL Alpenföhn Silvretta
Mainboard: Asus B150M-A / M.2
Ram: Mushkin 8GB Kit
Case: Fractal Design Node 304
Power supply: be quiet! Pure Power 9 300W
SSD: SanDisk Plus 120GB for operating system
Hard Drive: 2x Seagate Archive HDD v2 8TB
The bottom line without hard drives is 410 €, with the Intel Pentium 370 €.
How do you find the setup? Do you have any improvements? Especially with the CPU and the hard drives, I'm not sure. The two WD Red will be moved to the new server. Software is to be used either Windows Server or FreeNAS. But I prefer Windows simply better.
Many thanks to all who look at the whole and express their opinion!
for a new project I would like to expand the storage of my server. Currently I have two western digital red 4TB HDD installed. But this two HDD should be replaced with new ones. Any ideas which one are cheap but have a good performance?
After a server move from a KVM server with SSD to a Dedicated Server with RAID 10 without SSD, we have extreme fluctuations of the I / O Wait.
Forr 1-2 hours the server is running normal, but for the rest of time the performance is so slow that the website still un accessible.
I have already check the stats with iotop, only the mysql process seems to be working hard. All HDD has already been replaced with new ones but the issue is still existing.
Currently I am looking for a good colocation location in germany. I would like to have my 250 Wat Server in a data center. Now the price limit for me around 45 EURO.
I´m looking for the green line server from server4you, but on the server detials page I can only see the information 'AMD Opteron® Octa-Core, 8x 2,4 GHz' but which CPU is installed? Maybe the 'AMD Opteron 6136' or 'AMD Opteron 6128' can anyone help with informations?
I am looking for tools to monitor my different Linux servers. Preferably from an external network. Currently I have around 9 servers a mix VPS & Dedicated. The current setup is one game server, a docker server and the rest are webserver. It would be desirable if I could also view performance data and be notified in case of a problem. An e-mail notification is sufficient, may also be an option with an API web service to display data on another web page. Nagios or PRTG monitor I had in use, but need something that runs in a different network than my server and also easier to setup.
